Ten ten Street Ministry
Before Richard Sosa was directing the Via Dolorosa Trail Marathon, he was leading missions to New York City and Chicago ministering to those experiencing homelessness. After 6 years of meeting thousands of people on the streets, he came away with a few startling realizations. 1. Living on the street is one of the most difficult situations you can be in. 2. People living on the street, despite living in a city with millions of residents, are lonely and need fellowship and encouragement. 3. The biggest poverty they experience is not poverty of the material but poverty of relationship.
During a run recently, he received an epiphany that runners running the Via Dolorosa Trail Marathon may be able the perfect demographic to reach those on the street by sheer means that by running they could encounter more people in a shorter amount of time. By the grace of God and many generous souls, we were able to do our first mission in Chicago on December 28, 2019. we served 45 men and women at the Missionaries of Charity Soup Kitchen and then encountered 25 beautiful people on the streets of Chicago.
